Gaiam's Flip-Flop doormat keeps shoes out of landfills.

I prefer the "shoes off" approach when someone enters my home as a failsafe way to keep shoe crud out of my house.  But there is something welcoming about a doormat.

Organic Gardening magazine highlights some made of recycled materials like wood, rubber and even flip flops in their May issue:

Wood and rubber doormat from www.thegardener.com, $40.

Recycled tire doormat from www.lehmans.com, $20.

Flip-Flop doormat from www.gaiam.com, $28.

I can't go without mentioning that the EPA has found levels of several organic pollutants to be 2 to 5 times higher inside homes than outside and that wiping feet on a doormat can reduce lead on a typical carpet by a factor of six.   Did I mention that I'm not a fan of carpet, either?  That's another post for another day...
