Twitter has been a key communication tool during the Iran elections. Twitter also played a key role in pressuring the mainstream media in the U.S. to cover stories about #iranelections. See related story.
Now Twitter has decided to postpone its scheduled down time until later. This is Twitter's attempt to help the people of Iran communicate at such a critical time in their elections. The system upgrades that were scheduled for tonight at 9:45 p.m. PT (which is the middle of the day in Iran) have been postponed until tomorrow mid-day here (midnight in Iran).
Twitter's own blog explains why they are postponing the upgrade.
This is another example of how computers are affecting more and more aspects of our lives. And in this case, it is a good thing for the people of Iran. It will help make Iran's elections more meaningful.
