This article shows you a shortcut that lets you jump to a site with a user specified suffix like .org or .net.
Before reading this article, read "Save time going to another website using shortcuts." This article assumes you have already read the previous one or understand its contents.
The term “jump” or “jumping” in this article means using a keyboard shortcut to automatically fill in the www. at the beginning and .com (or another suffix) at the end of the desired address.
Unlike other shortcuts, jumping to a site is different depending on the browser you are using. I will cover how to do this in Firefox, Google’s Chrome and Internet Explorer.
Jumping using Firefox
Firefox has three preset suffixes you can jump to. The table below shows how to jump to sites ending with each of the three.
| Shortcut | Suffix |
| CTRL+ENTER | .com |
| CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER | .org |
| SHIFT+ENTER | .net |
Jumping using Chrome
Chrome only works with CTRL+ENTER to jump to a .com address.
Jumping using Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer lets the user specify any suffix, but – unfortunately – you can only specify one. Before jumping to a user-specified suffix, you must first set it up. Here’s how to do that.
Click Tools on the Internet Explorer menu bar then click Internet Options at the bottom of the menu. Make sure the General tab is selected at the top of the window. At the bottom of the Internet Options window, click the Languages button.
At the bottom of the Language Preference window you can specify any suffix you desire. Once you have chosen the desired suffix, click OK.
Close the Internet Options window by clicking the OK button. Now you can jump to your specified suffix by hitting CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER. You can still jump to a .com suffix by hitting CTRL+ENTER.
Jumping to a website address saves you typing and therefore time. You don’t need to use the mouse when jumping to a new site. The combination of saved typing and doing everything from the keyboard allows you to get things done quicker while keeping your focus on your work.
