The stage is set for the biggest regular season game in the short history of the United Football League as the second spot in the UFL’s championship game might be determined on Saturday night when the 2-2 Redwoods host the 2-2 Locos.

In the league’s first-ever game on October 8, the Locos defeated the Redwoods, 30-17 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. If the Locos record the sweep by beating the Redwoods again on Saturday, Jim Fassel and his Vegas crew will advance to face the currently undefeated Florida Tuskers in the league’s championship game on November 27.

However, if Dennis Green’s squad, which will be playing at home at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, knocks off the Locos, then California moves into the driver’s seat for a playoff berth with a week to go in the season.

Tie breakers for the last spot in the championship would come into play if the Redwoods beat the Locos, but then lose in the final week of the season and Las Vegas wins in Week 7.

The critical Week 6 matchup likely will be determined by which team can stop the other’s rushing attack. The league’s top-two rushers will be featured as California’s Cory Ross (306 yards) and Las Vegas’ DeDe Dorsey (230) will face off against defenses that showcase the league’s top-two tacklers in the Locos’ Teddy Lehman (26 tackles) and the Redwoods’ Dontarrious Thomas (22).
