What was the purpose for Washington Redskins executive vice president Vinny Cerrato to take an unnecessary shot at New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo?
During a first-half conversation about Spagnuolo interviewing for the Redskins' head coaching position after Super Bowl XLII, sideline reporter Andrea Kramer told the TV audience that Cerrato told her that at no point was Spagnuolo offered the head coaching job and that Spagnuolo wasn't a good fit.
Really came across on TV as if Cerrato wanted to make sure it was understood that Spagnuolo wasn't their guy.
And Jim Zorn was?
Zorn, who was initially hired as the offensive coordinator before the team hired a head coach, ended up getting the head coaching job. Granted he's new at the gig, but it almost looks like he forgot to work on the no-huddle during training camp after the 'Skins' performance in Thursday night's opener.
Some other quick observations:
Both teams get extra time to recover from injuries with the Thursday game, but watch for status updates on Fred Smoot (lower back or hip) and Mathias Kiwanuka (foot or leg).
Pete Kendall can expect his big wallet to be a little lighter soon. His head butt with helmet to Antonio Pierce (without helmet) will cost him a few bucks.
