Making a chocolate fondue for dessert is a special but simple way to share quality time with family. Kids love this as much as the adults do and if company is coming, it's a great way to keep everyone involved. You don't usually see shy people holding back when chocolate fondue is being served. Got a fondue pot? Let's go!
Preparations for fondue
Plan on having one fondue pot for every 4-5 people. With too many forks in the pot, the process becomes too messy and crowded. Each person needs to have his own fondue fork (or two) of the same color to keep things organized.
Since splattering is par for the fondue course, having a table cloth which is easy to clean is a good idea. A throw-away table cloth is even better, so consider using something you won't stress over.
Selecting a fondue pot
Choosing the right pot or pots is important for your first party. Most pots can be used for either meat or cheeses. It is important to note that earthenware pots are appropriate for cheese or chocolate fondue only. The reason for this is that the temperature required for these two types is lower and the earthenware can easily take it. Heating oil, on the other hand, high enough for meats can crack the earthenware.

Children love fondue as much as adults and teens. Children over the age of six can do the cooking themselves, but keep an eye out for controlled use of sharp fondue forks and major drippage.
Don't expect the burners to heat the pots for you. This has to be done on the stove and then brought to the table. It may be necessary once during the party to return the pot back to the stove to heat it up enough. Keep a good watch and all will go well!
