in the 2000 Oscar Nominated film Chocolat, Julliette Binoche plays Vianne, a single mother who takes a small French town by storm when she moves in with her daughter, and opens up her exotic & eccentric chocolate shop. Set in the 1960s, Vianne is something of a rebel. Like a gypsy, she travels at the beck and call of the North Wind, moving from location to location, dragging her 6-year-old daughter, Anook wherever she pleases.
Vianne is unapologetic, kind to those who cry for help and seeks to bring the town's ignorance to light. She struggles with guilt over putting her dreams and goals over the wants of her daughter, wondering if her rootless lifestyle is selfish and damaging. She is met with hostility and defensiveness from the townsfolk, and must find a way to make peace with the people who live in the sleepy French village.
Movie Bonus: Watch Johnny Depp (who played the son of a single mom in What's Eating Gilbert Grape) as the free spirited Irish musician who falls in love with single mom, Vianne.
