G.I. Joe toys and special promotions are helping fans of this classic toy franchise prepare for the August 7, 2009, opening of the Paramount Pictures movie G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra toy line

The initial wave of movie-based G.I. Joe toys will be available in stores beginning Monday, July 6. Fans can read about the whole line of Rise of Cobra toys that Hasbro plans to release and check the online Hasbro Toy Shop from time to time to see each wave as it comes out. Shoppers can use the Where to Buy Guide to locate local retailers that carry each toy.

While visiting the Hasbro Web site, fans can watch special G.I. Joe webisodes.

G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra contest

Visitors to the online G.I. Joe Web site are invited to "join the team" and take part in a Rise of Cobra online avatar contest. To enter, participants must pick a code name and create a G.I. Joe or Cobra avatar, customized with unique body parts (hair, skin, uniform) and accessories, that resembles a 3.75" action figure. Next, contest entrants must write a biography describing this new character's background.

The creators of the best 39 new characters will win actual 3.75" action figures with bodies that resemble their new characters and faces that look like the winners' own faces.

7-Eleven G.I Joe promotions

To promote the opening of G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, 7-Eleven stores are introducing a new G.I. Joe-themed "true-blue Slurpee® flavor" called Liquid Artillery that will blend strawberry, pineapple, and lime flavors and a new hot beverage – "Go Joe" Cappuccino – that contains as much caffeine as an 8-ounce energy drink.

In addition, 7-Eleven stores will sell four 22-ounce collectable Slurpee cups with matching toy straws featuring characters from the movie – the G.I. Joe team members Conrad Duke Howser and Snake Eyes and the Cobra team members Baroness and Storm Shadow. Shoppers will also be able to receive paper G.I. Joe-themed Slurpee cups that come with Slurpee Nation reward codes that they can use to enter an online instant-win sweepstakes at the Slurpee Nation Web site.
