Young children with an interest in architecture can learn the parts of a building and experiment with creating their own structures by playing with Wonderboard magnet sets by Dowling Magnets. Chicago parents who believe their kids would like to use magnets to make buildings can find Wonderboard sets to build a house, a castle, and more complicated structures formed from a variety of architectural elements.

Wonderboard Build-A-House Magnet Set

The Wonderboard Build-A-House magnetic building set comes with a 9" by 12" magnetic board on which children can arrange 51 themed magnet pieces. Some building elements are rectangular sections of gray stone, red brick, or blue wood plank walls. Others are colorful roof sections shaped like triangles and trapezoids. Doors and windows printed on the different sections add detail, and children can top off their creations with stone or brick chimneys.

Because the wall and roof sections are of varying lengths, children will develop their spatial awareness skills while matching and arranging them. Kids will also have fun experimenting with different color and pattern combinations while building cottages, castles, houses, and hybrid creations.

Chicago parents can find the Build-A-House Wonderboard online at Rainbow Resource Center, Dowling Magnets or Fat Brain Toys.

Wonderboard Create-A-Castle Magnet Set

The Create-A-Castle Wonderboard Magnet Set provides children with 105 magnetic pieces for building a 2-D castle on a 9" by 12" magnetic board. Pieces range from stone walls, crenellated turrets, and conical turrets to flags and a big dragon. Arched doorway pieces picture medieval characters such as a princess, a knight, and a wizard.

Again, children can exercise their creativity and visual skills combining the magnets to build towers and villages, as well as act out imaginative scenarios with the different characters.

Chicago parents can find the Create-A-Castle Wonderboard online at Woodland Kids, The Learning Collection, and Rainbow Resource Center.

Wonderboard Magnet Set – Junior Architect

The Junior Architect Wonderboard Magnet Set will suit the most sophisticated child builders. The 150 magnetic architectural elements included in this set are monochromatic to help kids focus on their shapes. Pieces range from doorways and windows to columns, arches, and rooftops. When playing with the parts from this kit, children can explore how different buildings such as cathedrals, temples, and castles are put together.

This building set comes with a clear vinyl storage envelope, a double-sided magnetic playboard, and a book full of activity suggestions, educational facts, and ideas for structures to build.

Chicago parents can find the Junior Architect Wonderboard Magnet Set online at The Learning Collection, Rainbow Resource Center, and Dowling Magnets.

Kids that enjoy creating 2-D magnetic buildings may also like safe 3-D magnetic building sets.
