With the opening of Paramount Pictures' new Star Trek movie on May 8, 2009, a fleet's-worth of new Star Trek toys are coming to online toy stores and brick-and-mortar toy stores in Chicago. Many can be ordered online or through your local comic shop, while others can be found at area Wal-mart or Toys "R" Us stores.

Star Trek movie action figures, vehicles, playsets

A line of 3.75-inch fully-articulated action figures with accessories is being released. Characters in this line include Kirk, Spock, and Uhura, as well as Nero, the villain in the upcoming movie. Find a Chicago-area comic shop near you and call to see if they have these figures or other new 2009 Star Trek toys in stock.

There will also be 6-inch and 12-inch Star Trek action figures available. Check local Chicago comic shops for them as well. Toys "R" Us also has an array of Star Trek merchandise in stock and on sale until May 9, 2009.

In addition, Mattel has designed special Star Trek Barbie dolls of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and Lt. Uhura. Read about them at the Barbie Collector Web site and look for them at Chicagoland Wal-mart stores.

Vermont Teddy Bear Company Star Trek bears

Collectors who are both Star Trek fans and teddy bears fans can visit the Vermont Teddy Bear Company Web site to find an officially licensed Captain Kirk teddy bear and Spock teddy bear. Both are 15-inches tall and retail for just under $100.

Star Trek Fragrances

A particular standout in the assortment of 2009 Star Trek merchandise is the triumvirate of Star Trek fragrances from Genki. Red Shirt Cologne is for men of action who know that tomorrow may never come, and Tiberius Cologne is for men on a mission who are ready to "boldly go." For the ladies, there's Pon Farr Perfume, which will undoubtedly lead to all sorts of delightful misunderstandings when worn.

Star Trek home décor

Trekkers (Trekkies?) who want to celebrate the release of Star Trek XI by redecorating their homes can invest in new home décor items. For walls, check out the line of Star Trek wall murals and peel and stick wall appliques from Roommates. Designs include the bridge of the Enterprise and classic Kirk and Spock figures. And for a finishing touch to really pull a room (or "bridge") together, aspiring Star Fleet members can invest a few hundred credits in the Star Trek Classic Captain Kirk Chair replica releasing in June 2009.
