The Kids Preferred Charlie and Lola dolls will delight young fans of Lauren Child's charming and award-winning books, as well as of the creative BBC Worldwide preschool TV series based on them. Made with great attention to detail to make sure they mimic the distinctive collage look of the original drawings, different versions of these sweet plush dolls giggle, talk, and can be posed and dressed.

For our review, we were sent the Talking Poseable Charlie and Lola Set. The Charlie doll stands 12 inches tall and the Lola doll stands 9.5 inches tall. Wires in their soft arms and legs make them poseable, and when their bellies are squeezed they say their signature opening lines from the book and TV episodes ("I have this little sister Lola..."). Their clothes are made with an interesting variety of fabrics, from Charlie's denim jeans to Lola's knit tights to the white corduroy soles of their shoes (Lola's are Mary Janes while Charlie's are sneakers with laces).

The Talking Poseable Charlie and Lola dolls come packaged together in a sturdy open-faced box that has been designed to look like a room from their house and which can be used to display the dolls or as a playscene for their imagined adventures. They retail for about $25.

Other toys in this Kids Preferred collection are the Giggling Charlie and Giggling Lola dolls (each $10 doll is sold separately, stands 8 inches tall and, when its belly is pressed, giggles just like Charlie and Lola giggle in the credits of their animated TV show), a cute $10 plush bean bag version of Sizzles the dog, and a $30 Dressable Talking Lola who can speak six phrases (accessories include a pajama set and a doll case).

Kids Preferred Charlie and Lola dolls review

These dolls are good quality and a perfect size both for snuggling and acting out new Charlie and Lola adventures. Charlie and Lola themselves are excellent role models, in both their books and television show episodes constantly showing children how a loving brother and sister can get along and help each other, even in the face of minor disagreements and problems. They also model creativity and the power of imagination, often being shown creating art or making up imaginative play scenarios.
