The kids and I have always enjoyed rice cakes. That's why it was no surprise to me when one child chose Mother's Natural Caramel Rice and Popped Corn Cakes on a snack run at the grocery store. It wasn't anywhere near our first time trying rice and popped corn cakes, but it was our first time trying this particular brand. Since kids can be the toughest critics, especially with food, I let their thoughts help me out on this product review. Would the kids find this product worthy enough to choose again?

With only 45 calories per cake (14 per package), I wouldn't worry as much if I decided to eat 3 or 4 as I would with one of my homemade chocolate chip cookies. Although, the serving recommendation on the packaging is one cake. There's also zero grams of total fat, meaning there is neither saturated fat or trans fat. That's a definite plus in my book. Carbs are at ten grams, with three grams of sugar and one gram of protein.

The packaging pretty much highlights the product appropriately. The colors and pictures do help me imagine the caramel flavor. This is a crunchy snack, so it may be a good alternative to chips for those who crave crunchy snacks. One thing I was interested to find out is that the Mother's Natural Caramel Rice and Popped Corn Cakes are distributed by the Quaker Oat Company.

I found the caramel flavoring in the Mother's Natural Rice and Popped Corn Cakes to be just right. It wasn't too overbearing, but it also wasn't bland. My 12 year old said "I could eat 30 bags of these." I had to laugh at that one. The 4 year old followed her with "Well I could eat 10." The 5 year old shouted "I like breaking them into pieces and eating them." Finally, the 10 year old said "They're so good I could eat them all day every day."

Anyone with kids has got to be thinking I'm making up all of these seemingly synchronized positive reactions by now. To that I say go buy some for your kids and see what they say. How many times have we bought these now? Honestly, I've lost count and it hasn't even been that long since we first tried them. If it isn't obvious by now, the kids and I rated Mother's Natural Caramel Rice and Popped Corn Cakes a 5 out of 5 - our highest rating.
