The Liz Claiborne Warehouse located in Lincoln Rhode Island will be moving to another state in order to "better align our distribution capabilities with the realities of the current economic environment." The company's move will take around 100 Rhode Island jobs with it.
The New England Joint Board of Unite Here, the union representing the warehouse workers, has been negotiating a severance deal, and according to a negotiator for the union, Liz Claiborne has made it clear that there is little that can be done to sway them to stay in the state.
"We don't think it makes sense to shut this place down," said a union spokesman. "They're doing excellent work. These people are not going to find an equally good job with benefits if this place goes out of state."
The union has asked RI Senator Jack Reed to object to any tax relief Liz Claiborne seeks if they leave Rhode Island.
