Nancy Pane Fortwengler’s Solo Show

Room 21

Nancy Pane Fortwengler explores the form and iconic symbols of femininity through her series of figurative dress paintings in which the body exists without the figure. Working backstage with a ballet company, Fortwengler was inspired to create the series after seeing the movement of the dancer’s costumes under dramatic stage lighting where the dresses themselves took on a life of their own.

Friends of the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Artist of the Year

The Friends of the Torpedo Factory Art Center are pleased to announce that artist CMDupre has been named Artist of the Year for 2009. This year’s juror was Shauna Lee Lange from Shauna Lee Lange Arts Advisory. Dupre, who has had a studio at the Torpedo Factory for over eight and a half years, was praised by Lange for creating paintings that have “achieved visual ecstasy and the work is far beyond the range of her counterparts.”
