– Fundraiser for Beat the Odds Scholarship Program
The public is invited to help support the Beat the Odds scholarship program by attending a play, The Art of Murder, at 8 p.m. at the Little Theatre of Alexandria. The Art of Murder is the winner of the 2000 Edgar Award for Best Mystery Play. A reception for ticketholders begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40, and can be purchased by calling 703.548.1105. Beat the Odds is a scholarship modeled after a Children's Defense Fund program that assists young people who have quite literally beaten the odds and are both excelling personally and contributing to the Alexandria community. – Retail Workshop on “Driving Sales from the Floor”
Alexandria’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is providing a free workshop, “Driving Sales from the Floor.” The workshop is designed for retail business owners, managers, and sales staff who want to get their “browsers” to become “buyers.” Virginia State SBDC Retail Industry Consultant Marc Willson will conduct the workshop, and provide particular emphasis on selling during the all-important holiday shopping period. – 18th-Century Dance Lessons
In preparation for the Late Harvest Ball on November 21, learn 18th-century English country dancing from expert dance instructors at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, 134 N. – Deadline for Registration for 23rd Annual Caregiver Conference
The 23rd Annual Caregiver Conference, “Shedding Light on Dementia Care,” will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 9350 Braddock Rd. The conference is co-sponsored by the City of Alexandria’s Department of Human Services, Office of Aging and Adult Services. Registration is required by November 6.
