Hawaii Head Coach Greg McMackin

For the second year, the University of Hawaii football coaching staff will be conducting the Warrior Football coaching Clinic this Saturday at the UH Athletics Complex. For more information click on the link below or go to www.hawaiiathletics.com and click on “Camps”.

One of the featured speakers will be Kale Ane, head coach of state champion Punahou Buff n Blu. This camp is open to all coaches of all levels, or simply fans who would like to know more about the coaching side of football.

One of the positive things about Hawaii Head Coach Greg McMackin is this camp. We often forget that college coaches, during the season, work 7 days a week, 15 + hours a day, and often sleep at the office. Right now during spring practice, they merely work about 6 days a week and 12+ hours a day. Putting on a clinic is not something they have to do.

But Coach Mack made one statement clear upon his hiring last year – that he would establish relationships with the local high school coaches and the community. This is one way to do it. Previous coach June Jones did not hold clinics and his personal relationship with the local high school coaches was minimal.

Along with Ane, new assistant coaches Chris Tormey and Gordon Shaw will speak about their respective area – special teams and the offensive line. Director of Football Player Personnel Tony Tuioti rounds out the speakers with his topic on “College Bound Game Plan”.

So you have the state champion high school coach, 2 new assistant coaches, and the recruiting coordinator being the key speakers to an audience full of youth and high school coaches. That is the leader of their peers, an intro to the staff, and a chat on how they can help your son transition into “our” college.

Good lineup Coach.
