The Warrior football defeated Utah St 49-36. Finally.
Hawaii used a ground attack to lead them to victory. Finally.
Leon Wright-Jackson rushed for over 100 yards. Finally.
I have always been a fan of a an offensive attack that showed balance. Naturally if the run game is working better, or the passing game cannot be stopped, then keep it going. Common sense always prevails.
I have also been in wonder why a heralded running back like Wright-Jackson, at 6-1 and 215 pounds with speed who played at Nebraska as a freshmen, was merely being used as a pass blocker for their #3 quarterback who, although doing very well in his first starts at the D-I level, could not carry the team with his arm.
Finally, they gave Wright-Jackson the ball. After 167 yards rushing against the Aggies, his team gets their first WAC victory.
Whether you say the run sets up the pass, or vice versa, the running game has to hold up its end of the deal. Or at least be given the opportunity. Considering the situation with all the injuries to the receivers and quarterback, an offensive line with protection problems, and a defense that has been humbled over the past few weeks, now is the perfect time for the running game. TIme to maintain longer possessions, chew up the clock, make the game shorter, and limit the time the defense is on the field.
Not to mention, open up the passing game. Bryant Moniz passed for 4 touchdowns.
Wright-Jackson and the rest of team are feeling good tonight.
