"The ghosts have crossed the street," says avid (read: rabid) Yankees fan Gerry Cohen, in heaven following his team's World Series victory this evening.

These ghosts Cohen mentions -- the likes of greats like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Thurman Munson -- who played in the old ballpark, were known, as he puts it, "to have carried the odd baseball beyond its fence."

Now the new Yankees Stadium and its present day stars are carrying on tradition, showing off a slew of homers and a great season ender by winning The World Series against the Phillies. This happened in a  new spot just a baseball's throw from the team's past post, originally built in 1923.

So, a new park, a new win. Like in 1923, the Yankees again remain victorious, with fans in awe not only of their team but of the many attractions offered by the super sophisticated replacement stadium -- including the New York Yankees Stadium Museum and Monument Park.

With that in mind, take a look at some great photos that led up to tonight's big win, showing off the Yanks new stadium and the trophy that proves the outcome of the 2009 World Series. Meanwhile, when you visit the Bg Apple, be sure to head for The Bronx and a behind-the-scenes tour of their new pride-and-joy.  For details, click HERE.
