4th of July: Festive Margaritas
Wendy writes,
I copied the Pomegranate Margarita recipe and will try it soon!! Maybe 4th of July out by the pool with friends. Definitely will make it with the juice, not the liquor. Any other favorite margarita recipes? It is so hard to find really great ones. I am girly with the margaritas, I like 'em fruity and flavorful.
Wendy,
You can easily make your Margaritas fruity by substituting the triple sec with any flavored liqueur like melon, strawberry, mango, cherry, etc. It will also change the color which is perfect for the 4th of July. You can also try using blue Curacao instead of traditional triple sec for a vibrant blue!
But if you’re daring and willing to experiment I’ve got two recipes for you try.
Italian Margarita
1 oz Amaretto
2 oz sour mix
½ oz triple sec
½ oz tequila
Pour all ingredients into a shaker tin filled with ice. Cap and shake. Pour into a salt rimmed glass and garnish with a lime wedge. Squeeze the lime into the cocktail for a little extra zing.
Chocolate Margarita
1 ½ oz white tequila
¾ oz chocolate liqueur (Godiva dark or dark chocolate Curacao)
½ oz triple sec
1 oz sour mix
Splash of OJ
Pour all ingredients into a shaker tin with ice. Cap and shake. Pour into a glass but don’t salt the rim. The result should confuse your senses. It will look chocolaty but smell like a Margarita. It should taste a bit tangy with a mild chocolate after taste.
I think they’re delicious. If you try them I’d love to know what you think.
And if you're thinking of taking the easy way out and using one of those pre made powdered mixes...here's a review on one from our
