The Cosmopolitan had a good decade long run but another martini by the same color has taken over the number 1 spot as the cocktail for the post Sex in the City generation. The Pomegranate Martini.
Pomegranate Martini
1 ½ oz citrus vodka (orange flavored also works well)
1 oz triple sec
2 oz pomegranate juice
(dash of lime juice or sour mix is optional)
Pour all ingredients into a shaker tin filled half way with ice. Cap and shake well. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
As most bartenders will tell you, fresh is always better but as these same bartenders know fresh ingredients aren’t always available. Not all bars will carry pomegranate juice because of well space or cost. Instead, bars will carry a pomegranate flavored liqueur to appease the hipsters with a sort of poor man’s version of the drink.
Poor Man’s Pomegranate Martini
2 oz of pomegranate liqueur (Pom or Pama)
1 oz vodka
½ oz triple sec
Make and shake as you would normally. Depending on the brand of pomegranate liqueur you may need to add a splash of lime juice or sour mix to add a little more flavor. Also some pomegranate liqueurs are clear. To get that pom color, simply add a splash of cranberry.
Not in the mood for a martini? Try a pomegranate margarita.

1 oz triple sec
2 oz pomegranate juice
