Halloween; the only day of the year where it’s completely acceptable for housewives to dress like hookers, jocks and jarheads alike can dress in drag and parents can dress their kids and pets like idiots and it’s actually cute. For the rest of us we choose our path to humiliation via alcohol. And what better way to get your drunken spook on than with black vodka.
That's right, black vodka. Having been on the US market since 2003, black vodka is only now growing in popularity as more recognizable brands begin production like Smirnoff and Absolut. The black color comes from an herb called acacia catechu that’s used as a dying agent in India and Burma. The effect of the dye on the taste of the vodka is disputed. While some claim it doesn’t affect the flavor at all others market their brand based on its unique flavor: a mild medicinal herb flavor in the Fernet Branca category. If you like the taste of mouthwash then any black vodka will do. If you want your vodka to taste the way it’s supposed to but dig the black color, then Blavod black vodka is for you.
But not to worry, Halloween isn’t the only time to break out the black vodka. I’ll have more for you guys and ghouls in up coming articles as where to get it and what to do with it. Until then…BOO!
