John Walsh and America's Most Wanted kicked off their new season tonight with a urgent plea: help find the babysitter charged with brutally killing two-year-old Alexia Lopez.
Her mother, Sandra, followed the family's normal routine as three kids headed to their destinations and parents went to work. When Sandra left Alexia at Berny Figueroa's day care, where Alexia's older sister also stayed, she and husband Manuel expected a normal, busy day.
But that night, their daughter Alexia died in a Brenham, TX hospital. Officials said that the child had been hit so hard in her stomach that her large and small intestines had been separated.
The tragedy rocked the young family. Now Sandra and Manuel are dedicated to finding Figueroa, who may be in Mexico or somewhere in the Southwest. Here's more information from AMW:
Cops say Figueroa may have cut and dyed her hair blonde to disguise herself. They also believe that someone may be bankrolling her flight from justice, because Figueroa doesn't speak any English, doesn't know how to drive, and has no money.
Figueroa is originally from Honduras, but has lived in the United States legally for several years. She has spent time in Texas and California, but also has contacts in Las Vegas, Nev.
Figueroa may have crossed the border to Mexico on her way to Honduras, but cops believe she still could be in the United States.
If you know where Berny Figueroa is hiding out right now, call America's Most Wanted hotline at 1-800-CRIME-TV. Spanish-speaking operators are on duty, and your privacy will be protected.
Figueroa is wanted on a charge of capital murder. Remember, all felons on the run are dangerous. Do not attempt to approach or apprehend this person. Dial 911 or AMW.
