An everyday tool in your car might be a criminal's best friend. A recent rash of Oklahoma City home break-ins used garage door openers to break into homes.

The thugs broke into cars to use the home's garage door remote control, police said. Once someone has your garage door opener, they have access to your garage.

If you leave the garage door to the inside of your home unlocked, your garage door opener has just provided easy home entry to criminals. How to protect yourself?

Simple. The police department has this recommendation:

If you’re going to leave your car parked in front of your house, the best thing you can do is make sure your garage door opener is not in that vehicle,
