Consumers have long been at a disadvantage when a home sells in their neighborhood or in one where they want to buy a home because they have had to wait weeks and sometimes a month or longer to get the most recent sales information on properties. Now the Redfin.com real estate website has revolutionized the ability of consumer to get timely information by getting the stats on recently sold homes on their site within 15 minutes of an agent taking the home off the market.
The website has added photos and sales stats on homes sold within the past two years for their coverage areas. In Washington, D.C. and Seattle, the information is instantly available to visitors, while in other markets a quick registration process is necessary.
The reason this information is so valuable to consumers is that they can make a true market comparison of the homes which sold most recently, not the ones which sold months ago which may not be a true reflection of prices in a volatile market.
