Midwest Housing Prices Rising Fastest

A new national residential price index released on August 12 revealed that the real estate market was healthiest in the Midwest during the month of June. The median price of detached single family homes in this region, which includes North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana and Ohio,; rose 4.7 percent from May 2008 to June 2008.

When looking at year-to-year data for detached single family homes in this region, the decrease in median price of .2 percent, almost negligible, was the smallest price drop across the nation.

Surprisingly, this region includes Michigan, one of the hardest hit states in the country because of the twin problems in the auto industry and in the housing market. Presumably, stable markets in the other states within this Census Region offset the problems in Michigan’s real estate market.

The IAS360 House Price Index, a new, comprehensive monthly housing data tracker, looks at the median sales prices of detached homes on a national basis along with reporting on 360 counties, nine census divisions and four regions.

Integrated Asset Services, LLC (www.iasreo.com), a Denver-based company which specializes in residential real estate valuations and default management, prepares the monthly report.
