Independence Day is upon us, and from June 28 through July 4th, the City of Las Vegas will allow residents to use Safe-n-Sane fireworks. However, after midnight on July 4th, it is illegal to use any type of fireworks in Las Vegas.
The City of Las Vegas website has issued safety and legal information for everyone to follow to have a safe Fourth of July holiday. These include:
• Fireworks should always be lit on a flat surface. While it is permissible to light fireworks in a driveway, it is illegal to light them on a sidewalk or street, which is city property.
• Fireworks are also illegal on school property, federal property, or in all Las Vegas parks. Due to an extreme fire danger in parklands, they are never permitted on Mount Charleston, Lake Mead, Red Rock, or the Spring Mountains.
• Keep kids safe! Always make sure a responsible adult is present when fireworks are being lit. Also make sure a bucket of water and a hose is nearby to quickly extinguish any fire caused by fireworks.
• After fireworks have been used, they should be discarded in a bucket of water for several hours before being placed in the trash.
