Warriors president Robert Rowell said "The Warriors are not for sale," responding to a report that majority owner Chris Cohan is looking to unload the team.
There was never an offer, Rowell went on to say. (He is in Las Vegas for the summer league.)
The earlier report, fueled by a Mercury News column and published in the Contra Costa Times, claimed that Cohan has had negotiations with Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison and is seeking other suitors.
"There has not been an offer and there has not been an ask," Rowell said. "There is not a sports team in the Bay Area that does not have discussions about the future and what is going to happen, but it is speculative to report that something could happen in one or two years. Anything could or could not happen in the next two years."
Meanwhile, Stephen Curry was 4-of-14 as the Warriors lost 73-69 to Houston in their summer opener. The No. 7 overall pick in the NBA draft finished with 16 points and three assists.
I didn't watch the game but my scout who did had this admittedly harsh review:
"Wow, Acie Law is really terrible. Chase Buddinger is awful. Randolph hasn't improved and Curry is not going to be a point guard. Not a good start."
Warriors second-year forward Anthony Randolph had 20 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and three turnovers in 33 minutes. He disappeared at times, was out of control at times, didn't get any post-up opportunities and at one point was tired but coach Keith Smart refused to take him out.
Smart and Don Nelson do like playing mind games with Randolph, and the consensus was it worked last season.
Buddinger, by the way, plays for the Rockets and missed an open-court layup at one point.
The Warriors' next game in Vegas is today at 5 p.m. against Sacramento.
