Picture postcard created by Julia Hanna.

Have you ever painted a picture that you were proud of, or do your kids draw pictures that you would like to send to family and friends? Yes, I know that is what the computer is for, but what about making an old fashioned postcard?  One thing that I actually enjoy doing with my friends corresponding via snail mail, which is just so much more special than sending an email.  I still love sending my daily emails, but creating cards for others is a labor of love.  I enjoy holding a card in my hands and reading the notes my friends send me, which is something the Internet can never replace. This postcard is an economical project that can be made with supplies from around your house, but using card stock is best for durability.  At least making your own postcard is cheaper than buying one at the store, and it has your favorite picture on it to boot!  Here are the supplies I used to make my personalized picture postcard:

  • card stock
  • a digital photograph
  • scissors
  • a printer

Postcards are not just for vacations.  Creating a fun postcard to send to family and friends is a very affordable way to stay in touch.  For example, if you create a birthday postcard it is an inexpensive gift that you created with your own hands. Some people may think  I am cheap to only send people handmade cards on their birthday, but at least I know these creations will be treasured.  With the current recession very few of us can afford to buy large presents, and many of us already have too many items we do not use anyway.  Follow the steps in the slide show below to learn more about how you can create your own picture postcard.
