One of the things that I enjoy about Washington D.C. is the amount of culture available in the city. Everything from festivals to museums to the very history and people of the city make Washington D.C. a great place to find one cultural venue or another to suit anyone's taste. One of my favorite places is the Kennedy Center. While it is known for all of its performances, the ones that I enjoy in particular, are those performed on the Millennium Stage. You will find anything and everything being performed on the Millennium Stage and the best part of it is that it is free. Every night at 6pm, they have an hour long performance that can vary from puppet shows to the National Symphony Orchestra.
For example, a few upcoming activities to look forward to:
June 3rd - The National Philharmonic Orchestra ( in cooperation with the Embassy of Serbia).
June 5th - The Continentals with polka dance lessons preceding it at 5:30pm.
June 15th - Origem Band - a Brazilian jazz band playing ethnic Brazilian musical styles from the Northeastern and Southeastern parts of Brazil.
June 25th - Welsh National Opera - In connection with the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, this award winning group from Cardiff will perform pieces from various operas.
For those using the Metro, the Kennedy Center has free 15 minute rides from the Foggy Bottom Metro Station. Just look for the big red bus with The Kennedy Center logo emblazoned on the side. Also, be sure to go early as the place fills up quickly.
Also, if you are unable to make it to a certain performance, the Kennedy Center has all of its Millennium Stage performances broadcasted live on the web as well as archives of previous shows.
