In today's Do It All Mamas (& Papas) the spotlight is on Talia Bahr Goldfarb, co-owner of Myself Belts, and mom of three. Myself Belts are a great invention for tots with an independent head on their shoulders. Read more about the belts HERE.
Examiner: Tell me something unique/interesting about yourself.
Talia: Before creating Myself Belts, I was a happy and fulfilled social worker, working as a therapist with children in the foster care system. I never thought motherhood would change my professional life from social worker to running a belt business!
Examiner: What is your business all about?
Talia: Myself Belts is a one handed belt that helps children and adults become more independent in dressing. Perfect for a potty training toddler, for school uniforms, kids with special needs, or for adults with hand-dexterity difficulties, Myself Belts have changed the belt world by offering a totally new type of belt closure.
Examiner: What is your favorite product that you make or sell and why do you like or recommend it?
Talia: There are over 20 different styles of Myself Belts, but my favorite at the moment is a brand new guitar belt for the back to school season. I love it!
Examiner: Why did you start your business?
Talia: Myself Belts began when my son was potty training and needed a belt to hold up his pants because he was thin. There was nothing on the market that he could use independently and like all toddlers he wanted to do his belt "all by myself!". My sister, Danielle, and I decided to invent a belt that small children could easily fasten and unfasten and Myself Belts was born.
Examiner: What secret do you have to share with other parents about "having it all" with your family and business?
Talia: My secret to balancing work and family is just to breathe. Knowing that what needs to get done will get done helps when juggling all of the balls of motherhood and running a business. Embracing the chaos helps me to get through the day with a smile.
Examiner: What is the number one piece of advice you have for other parents?
Talia: It is important to just do the best that you can each day. Some days will be more productive than others, but you can't be too hard on yourself for the days that just seem to go by too fast. Being organized and planning ahead, allows for some flexibility when curve balls come up in the day that you didn't expect.
Examiner: What is your (and your kids) favorite family activity?
Talia: We love to play games, like Uno, and run around at the park together. It is fun as the kids get older and we can all participate fully in family fun.
