 Carol and her husband

In today's Do It All Mamas (& Papas) Carol Pedersen, mom to 22-year-old Kory and 21-year-old Skyler, and the mom behind the US operations of MyPacifier.com.

Examiner: Tell me something unique/interesting about yourself.

Carol: I met my husband while we were both working on getting our private pilot’s license. We own a single engine Beechcraft Sierra. We are also members of the American Coaster Enthusiasts and I have been on over 200 different roller coasters around the world. I am a Property Officer for the Fremont, CA Police Dept working in the evidence room for 29 years. I am also the USA distributor for our business, MyPacifier.com

Examiner: What is your business all about?

Carol: The company, MyPacifier.com, was started by our family in Denmark when the founder, Pia Callesen, was tired of picking her son up from daycare and finding another's pacifier in his mouth. She was tired of being told to write the name with a Sharpie on the pacifier, so she came up with the personalized pacifier idea. Not only do parents put the name on the pacifier, but they have become a fashion statement with different quotes, like Mute Button, Grandpa's co-pilot, Lil Celtics Fan and Kisses 25 cents, to name a few.

Examiner: What is your favorite product that you make or sell and why do you like or recommend it?

Carol: As the original personalized pacifier company, we started out 3 years ago with only 2 different color combinations to pick from, the boys and the girls color. Since then we have added more styles and colors than any other personalized pacifier company. We recently added accessories, which include adorable pacifier clips and pacifier cases. I would say my favorite combination right now is the girls pink/lavender/white combination. Since there are several different nipple styles, it’s important for the buyer to choose the nipple style carefully.

Examiner: Why did you start your business?

Carol: We were contacted by our family in Denmark with questions about adding the USA to their distribution. We loved the idea and asked if we could be their distributor. Although I was far past the pacifier phase, I knew I would have purchased them myself had they been around when my boys were babies.

Examiner: What secret do you have to share with other parents about "having it all" with your family and business?

Carol: It’s easy to get too involved with your business or job and forget to spend time with your kids. It’s important to make them number one in your life. You don’t need to “have it all” to be happy.

Examiner: What is the number one piece of advice you have for other parents?

 Carol: Family time.

Examiner: What is your (and your kids) favorite family activity?

Carol: We love to travel as a family and have been all across the United States and to over 10 different countries with our sons.  It’s harder now to get away together because they’re older,   going to school and working.  We’re all on different schedules.  If I don’t see them, I make sure I text to them every day.  That’s why it’s important to do things with them before  they’re grown.
