Get ready for the 4th of July with some fun this week with the kiddos. They'll love helping, especially when they find out they're making the ice cream! And you'll LOVE how easy it is! This recipe for homemade ice cream comes from the June/July 2009 issue of Every Day with Rachael Ray.

What You Need:

  • 1 10 oz. coffee can with plastic lid
  • 1 36 oz. coffee can with plastic lid
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • Coarse salt

Directions:

  1. Rinse, dry and freeze a 36 ounce and 10 ounce coffee can with lids.
  2. Fill the smaller can ¾ full with ice cream base and seal
  3. Place the smaller can inside the larger can and pack the empty space with crushed ice
  4. Cover with a layer of coarse salt before sealing
  5. Roll or gently kick the can until the ice cream is frozen
