Getting little feet to stay still while you measure them can be a chore, but you need to do it if you shop online for shoes like I do.

I have found two easy ways to do so:

  1. Put a strip of masking tape sticky side up on the floor and have your toddler stand on it. Quickly rip the tape right behind their heel and in front of the longest toe and just put on a ruler to see the measurement. For babies, help them to a standing position and do the same with the tape. Newborns can be measured while sitting, because that's how they'll wear the shoes.
  2. The second way which tots also find fun is to have them stand on a piece of construction paper while you trace their feet, making sure to also draw a line at the tip of the longest toe and at the heel. Then measure the drawing and let your little one color in their footprints.
