How to make your own baby wipes for free from recycled materials around the house

Sewing machine optional on this green baby project!

Baby wipes aren't really expensive but the cost does add up. You can save yourself a pretty penny over the diapering-life of your babies and do a little to save the earth by using cloth wipes. They're cheap and easy to make too!

All you do is take old flannel swaddling blankets that you probably have a ton of and cut into squares or rectangles about 6 or 8 inches wide. You can also use an old soft t-shirt. The t-shirt material won't fray so you don't have to sew the edges. You technically don't have to sew the edges if you use the blanket either, but they will fray a bit. So if you want to use these for more than one kid, sew around the edge and trim the fabric. I made all of mine without sewing, but it's your choice.

Store the wipes in an old throw-away wipe container or a plastic Tupperware container with a lid. You can store them dry or add a mixture of water, witch hazel and a few drops of tea tree oil. The mixture would be 3/4 witch hazel, 1/4 water. Use enough to only dampen the cloth. Or you can make the mixture and put it in a spray container and spray baby's bottom before wiping. I've done it both ways and my girls have preferred the spray and wipe method.
