Moms and dads who wear their babies on walks, to the store and for everything else know how difficult it is to have baby in his carrier and try to juggle a diaper bag. If you cross it over your torso the strap lies right where baby's face is. If you put it on your shoulder and have other kids hands to hold, it ends up falling off your shoulder and smacking the other child in the head. Both are a no go. The solution: a backpack.
Here's a look at some of the best backpacks to use while wearing your baby around town...
Ergo designed specifically to compliment Ergo baby carriers, the Ergo backpack is a great choice to use with ANY baby carrier. It is lightweight and fits a ton of stuff plus has several convenient exterior pockets. As an added bonus it has special connecting straps to attach on the back of your Ergo carrier if using it as a baby backpack. This makes vacationing with this bag even better if your tot is big enough to go on the back. I used it last year on my vaca to Disneyland. It fit so much stuff and was so practical. The downside, the straps needed to be resewn after about 6 months of use. But after I did that it was like new again and I'm still using it.
Kalencom New Orleans makes a backpack that combines everything you like about a diaper bag with the convenience of a backpack. It has an insulated bottle holder on one outer section, a big pocket on another, another zip up pocket with see thru pockets inside in the front of the bag and yet another zip up area on the bottom of the bag. That bottom pocket folds out into an instant, clean baby changing station. That's a fab idea! My favorite part of this whole bag is the numerous see thru storage areas inside the bag. This way everything has a place, you don't need to dig around too much to find stuff. Lots of practical features and comfortable to carry. And it's really cute in the Doodle Bug design that I've been using. I've gotten several compliments.
Ivar's Zug G2 is designed as a daypack for people on the go - whether that's on a hike or just around town with your tot. It has padded, ergonomic carrying straps and the coolest shelf system inside. You can fit way more than you'll need most days in this bag. It is really sturdy and has zip up pockets everywhere it seems. You can keep pacifiers in the front for quick access and your keys in the top pocket. So while it's not made only for a baby, it's a perfect use for the Zug G2. Then when baby's out of diapers you still have a great pack you can use as your work bag, complete with laptop compartment! I just tried this bag in another way this past weekend during my newborn's first vacation. I made it my travel feeding station. It was a perfect way to organize everything for easy access and storage both in the car and in the hotel room. Great bag!
DadGear's backpack is designed with dads in mind, but made perfectly well for moms too. It has 13 easy to access compartments, padded straps as well as special straps to attach it to a stroller, so it is really versatile. This pack also has oversized exterior pockets made to hold two bottles on each side of the bag. This is a perfect bag for dads who don't want to be caught holding a diaper bag - ever, carrying baby or not. It comes with a changing pad and refillable wipes case. It comes in lots of colors and even in a Collegiate series for those that want to show their school's team pride! I used this one also this weekend on our road trip as my travel diaper station. It worked out great. I filled up the gigantic inner pocket with more than enough diaps and wipes for the whole weekend. It kept me organized in the car and once we got to the hotel.
