So you want a hot costume this year?

No need to debate it. Look no further than Sarah Palin for inspiration.

Here's an idea of how to do a fun mini-Palin baby costume.

For the Sarah hair

Buy the "Lil Kim" baby wig ($21.99, BabyToupee.com) Sure it's pink, but you can have fun with this costume. Just sweep the long flowing hair into a cute updo that's oh so Sarah.

For the shoes

You'll want your little veep candidate to be in fashion, so get a pair of baby high heels from Heelarious.com ($35). I think their "Little Lady" pair would be a good bet.

For the glasses

You'll need a pair of baby glasses for a real Sarah look. Get a pair of Solobambini's Teeny Weeny in Ice ($69.95, solobambini.com). They come without lenses. So no need to worry about bothering baby's vision. When you're done, donate them to a local children's hospital or outreach center so that they go to good use.

Don't forget your lipstick!

The topper to your little Sarah Palin outfit has to be lipstick! Not because she's a woman, but because of her famous pitbull-hockey mom joke at the Republican convention!

Check out the baby lipsticks (with purses, of course) that come in the My First Purse by International Playthings (left) ($12.73, amazon.com) or the My First Purse by Gund (right) ($14.25, amazon.com).

For the outfit

Buy a baby boy's suit. (They don't make any dress suits for baby girls). A cute option is the Fancy Grey Baby Suit at boyssuitsandtuxedos.com for $59.95. Ditch the tie that comes with it though! It's so cute! When you're done, donate it to a local women's shelter for some mom in need for her little man.

Wanna take it over the top?

Add a stuffed pitbull or a baby doll to be baby Trig for ultimate party attention, not to mention prize money. (You can always donate your winnings to support your favorite candidate!)

There are several little stuffed pitbulls available on Ebay for as low as 99-cents. For a baby Trig, check out the Rosy Cheek soft boy doll ($24.95, amazon.com) or this cute All Star boy plush doll ($7.99, amazon.com).

Need a family costume?

  • Mom could go as Palin, Dad as McCain and baby could go as baby Trig.
  • Parents go as McCain and Obama, kids go as their VPs.
  • Parents go as your favorite candidate team, kids go as a voting box and ballots.
