Can you teach toddlers two languages at once? Sure can. And why not give it a go as part of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins this week.
A fun video to help develop both English and Spanish at the same time is the new Galloping Mind's Preschooler Learns Spanish ($14.99, amazon.com).
Preschooler Learns Spanish is very similar to Baby Einstein videos in style. It has some animations that aren't really necessary (or that great) but my 2.5 year old and 11 month old both enjoyed watching it.
Video shows different common objects and actions and while a woman simply says the words in English and Spanish. The simplicity is the key here on how it works. There is also a nice classical music soundtrack throughout.
My toddler still has trouble saying words in English but she could repeat the Spanish words just as well as their English counterparts.
This DVD would be a good supplement to teaching Spanish or English to tots, in addition to speaking with them, reading books and using flashcards.
If you don't speak another language, then you can learn alongside of your children with Preschooler Learns Spanish.
