In today's Do It All Mamas (& Papas) feature (find out more about this series below)... meet Rachel Fultz, mom to 3.5 year old Landry and the designer/owner of the creations at heavenlyimpressions.com.
Examiner: Tell me something unique/interesting about yourself.
Rachel: I am truly a girl-ie girl at heart and love anything pink, girl-ie, and vintage! Thrift shopping is one of my favorite pastimes! I never know what treasures I will find!
Examiner: What is your business all about?
Rachel: Once you enter parenthood, life becomes very busy with daily duties, schedules and work. Precious moments, milestones, and joyous occasions can slip away before you realize the moment has even come and gone. I am passionate about creating cherished keepsakes by which parents, grandparents, friends and family can remember those precious moments! My scrapbook-inspired photo cards, including birth announcements, invitations and Christmas cards, are the perfect way to share your joyous occasions with your friends and family! My photo cards have a unique 3D look and truly look like mini-scrapbook pages that were custom designed for your occasion!
Examiner: What is your favorite product that you make or sell and why do you like or recommend it?
Rachel: My favorite product is my photo birthday invitations. Why spend so much time hand-writing each birthday invitation? My photo birthday invitations are personalized with your child's picture and party information. All of the work is done by me! All you have to do is supply your child's picture and party information and I'll do the rest! What a fun keepsake for your family and friends to have! They can see how much your child has grown and changed from year to year! This sets a fun tone for your child's birthday party!
Examiner: Why did you start your business?
Rachel: I was in my third year of teaching public school when I had my son, Landry. Once he was born, I knew that I wanted to be at home with him. After creating and sending out Landry's birth announcements, I knew that I wanted to pursue this as a career so that I could work from home. For the next 18 months, I continued to teach school during the day and build my business at night. After much prayer, dedication, endless learning and hard work, I finally was able to quit my teaching job in October 2006 to become a full time WAHM.
Examiner: What secret do you have to share with other parents about "having it all" with your family and business?
Rachel: For me, "having it all" does not mean I'm able to "buy it all." I have made many sacrifices along the way in order to get where I am today. I wanted to be at home with my child, but at the same time, I needed a creative outlet and desired the satisfaction of working as well. God saw the desires of my heart and has continued to bless me both in my family life and in my business. I still have to work at balancing the delicate scales of family and business. I also still work many late nights after everyone else has gone to bed. My "secret" to the success I have experienced has been my fervent prayers, sacrifice, supportive family, passion and dedication to making it all work.
Examiner: What is the number one piece of advice you have for other parents?
Rachel: Take time to be with your children. Enjoy them. Laugh with them. Hug them tight. Cherish those moments, for they come and go so quickly!
Examiner: What is your (and your kids) favorite family activity?
Rachel: I love to go anywhere with my family as long as we're together. My son's favorite place to eat, until last week, was Chick-Fil-A. He loves their play place! However, my husband and I recently took him to Chuck-E-Cheese, and I think his heart has been forever won over by the big mouse with pizza and games!
