What do you buy for a newborn baby for Christmas or Hanukkah? That's a tough one because they really don't do much besides eat and sleep. But there are a few toys out there perfect for entertaining the littlest gift recipients. (And for ideas of things for newborns that they'll enjoy, but aren't a toy, check out part 2 of my newborn gift guide HERE.)

Zolo-linko by Kushies clip together toys for newborns and up is brightly colored and promotes visual development, tactile stimulation, dexterity and flexible thinking. It can attach at one end to a car seat too. This is practically the ultimate teether toy. Very cool looking to boot. Baby will get lots of use out of this one for quite a while! (Use code examha10 to receive a 10% discount on any order from www.kushiesonline.com.)

Soothing Sounds Lullaby Puppy by Russ is sound activated. When baby cries he turns on and plays soothing lullabies as it twinkles soft multi-colored lights. It comes with a Velcro strip to attach it to a crib rail too. Plus he’s really soft and friendly.

Bright Beginnings Giggle Balls by Russ are soft balls in animal shapes. Just push a button and let the giggles begin.

Baby Einstein Twisty Lights Rattle was my youngest daughter's favorite Christmas gift last year. (She was just shy of three months old at Christmas.) It is a pull apart rattle that has all sorts of textures and has a smiling face that lights up at the top.

Organic Cotton Grape by Under the Nile are a good way to get baby to love her fruits and veggies early. It's made from organic cotton too, so you can feel good about your little one putting it in his mouth. Plus when it's time for teething, you can dip the bottom few grapes in water and freeze them for added soothing. Also, babies will like mushing the grapes in their hands.

Taggies makes lots of great toys, clothes and gear for babies. They're really cute, high quality, soft items that little babies love! The secret - they have soft ribbon tags on them, whether they're blankets, clothes, hats, books or toys. Babies love them because their little fingers like to manipulate the little loops. They also like to chew on them. See my top 10 Taggies items for Christmas HERE.

For other toy ideas for little babies, check out my other guides that are divided by category with gifts for a wide range of ages, including fun mobiles and more HERE.

I've put together over two dozen gift guides to help you find the perfect gifts this holiday season. I'm breaking down the categories to suit children's personalities from bug lovers to little scientists, artists and more. I'll also have gift guides for new parents, moms, dad, and grandparents. You can see all of those HERE all season long. Be sure to check back as there's lots more to come.
