With the great fall weather and beautiful leaves turning colors, fall is a fabulous time for a campout with the kiddos.

Whether you go all the way to your backyard, a state park or even backpacking deep into the wilderness, do more than S'mores!

These kid camp favorites will delight little campers of all ages.

  • Fruity Dog Kabobs Using sticks you find (or kabob sticks for a backyard BBQ), cut up hotdogs (can be veggie dogs or turkey dogs to make them healthier) and alternate adding a chunk of hotdog with a chunk of pineapple. Cook over your campfire.
  • Stick Bread Find more sticks. Using biscuits from a small can of pre-made biscuits, stretch the biscuit out and stick the stick up the center. Cook over the campfire. For some added yum, melt some butter and dip the biscuit on a stick into the butter. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar for a dessert.
  • Cowboy Sodas Take a small juicy orange and  squish it by rolling it between your palm and the ground. Insert a peppermint stick for a straw. Enjoy.
  • Jolly Water Add two Jolly Rancher candies to one bottle of water. Shake.

When taking the kids camping, it's the perfect time to teach about wildfire safety. Let good old Smokey the Bear help with tips and facts to use in your discussions (plus fun interactive games) at SmokeyBear.com.
