Disneyland and Walt Disney World's character breakfasts are a treat that I remember from my childhood. They were always one of my favorite things about visiting the home of Mickey Mouse. So when my family decided to take our first trip to Disneyland, the first thing I booked was a character breakfast so my girls could experience some of that joy.

This weekend we enjoyed Chip 'n Dale Critter Breakfast at Storyteller's Cafe inside the Disney's Grand Californian Hotel.

Disneyland's website says about this character breakfast:

Prepare for a meal where delectable dishes, sing-a-longs and zany adventures are part of the fun. Chip 'n Dale are your hosts at this bountiful breakfast buffet where good times are always on the menu.

  • Select either the all-you-care-to-eat Farmer's Market buffet or items from our menu.
  • The Farmer's Market buffet includes breakfast favorites like eggs, pancakes, Mickey Mouse waffles and a lot more.
  • Kids of all ages can sing and dance with Chip 'n Dale and their friends.

The food was fantastic. But the experience was not like the Chip 'n Dale breakfast I remember as a kid. There wasn't much singing and dancing, as the website says. That was disappointing actually. There was one round of skipping around the restaurant to music with the characters that was fun for my girls though. But that was it. All of the characters stopped by our table which they liked. The characters are a little scary looking too. I wasn't familiar with any of them besides Chip and Dale, who only stopped by once each. While it was somewhat fun and the food was good, I won't be doing that one again. I didn't think it was worth the price of about $30 per adult. (Our girls were free because they're both under three.)

I'd instead opt for dining with the characters at Goofy's Kitchen. Goofy's Kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with the characters. This is the most popular of all of Disney's restaurants and you must have a reservation to eat here. Next time I go, I'll be booking my family a table at Goofy's Kitchen for dinner. I took a tour of the hotels and restaurants and the dinner here looked fabulous. So nicely decorated. The food almost looked fake it was so perfectly displayed and it smelled REALLY great! I really wish I would have booked that one.

Here are the other character dining options at Disneyland:

Minnie & Friends - This is a buffet style meal inside Disneyland. You must have a ticket for that day to the park to eat here.

Ariel's Disney Princess Celebration - This lunch and dinner event is inside Disney's California Adventure. You must have a ticket for that day to the park to eat here too.

Lilo and Stitch's Aloha Breakfast - Inside Disneyland's Paradise Pier Hotel, this is a breakfast luau.

I'll be reporting all week on Disneyland. You'll be able to read my entire Disney series HERE, including my reviews of Mickey's Trick or Treat Party and Halloween Time Disneyland.
