After a brilliant sprint in stage 3 to take his second win of the '09 Tour, Mark Cavendish accused the peloton of racing like "juniors." During his post-race interview, he suggested that the Columbia High Road Squad was the only team racing.

Team Astana destroyed this assertion 24 hours later at stage 4's Team Time Trial.  Judgement came down hard on Columbia, whose expectations were high but performance low. Their disappointing 5th place finish could be attributed heavy legs from controlling the Tour over the past few days.

More likely, however, what Cavendish considered junior tactics was actually the strategy of the experienced.
