Open Streets route

This year's Open Streets takes place tomorrow, Saturday, August 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Here's an opportunity to take back the streets and bike, blade, skate, jog, stroll the kids or walk the dog — just don’t drive — through Chicago neighborhoods from Little Village to Logan Square.

With Open Streets' (formerly known as Sunday Parkways') move to Saturday, there was a need to rebrand the event.  There are more changes:  Last year's event was spread over two Sundays.  This year, one Saturday.  Each of last year's routes were four miles.  This year, one eight mile route.  Perhaps to cover the longer route, this year's event starts a bit earlier and ends a bit later too.

Like last year, there will be activities along the route reflecting the neighborhoods: workouts, performances and children's activities.

And while last year I wrote that Sunday Parkways starts in Logan Square, this year your Open Streets experience should end in Logan Square with the concurrent Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival (see additional preview over at Peopling Places).
