Bears: Matt Forte's fantasy status is going to go hand-in-hand with the Bears' defense this season. The more competitive the Bears can keep games, the more the passing-challenged club can feature their rookie back. They were surprisingly competitive last week at Carolina, and it showed in Forte's impressive numbers (23 carries for 92 yards). He must be considered for a starting position each week the Bears face a team at or near their level ...
Sad to say, but the Devin Hester fantasy era must be put on hold. He's simply too valuable to the Bears as a kick returner to risk injury -- such as the one he sustained last week -- by putting on the field more often. Waive him.
Panthers: Steve Smith returns from suspension this week and that changes everything. Jake Delhomme's stock shoots up, while Muhsin Muhammad and Dante Rosario slide in the other direction. Remember, Smith is not returning from an injury, so he should be at full speed for his season debut Sunday at Minnesota. He's a must-start, and you really ought to consider Delhomme against a Vikings defense that stops the run, not the pass ...
Jonathan Stewart is stuck in a rotation with DeAngelo Williams, but make no mistake about it: Stewart was drafted to be the man in Carolina. He promises to be inconsistent while sharing carries with Williams, but Stewart should get more and more of the play as the season rolls along. He's worth having on your roster -- but probably not playing much -- until the second half of the season.
