The two keys to a successful draft in fantasy football are: 1) Selecting players who will perform better than expected; and 2) Staying away from guys who will disappoint. In this 32-team series, I examine both types of players on every NFL team as the clubs prepare to head to training camp. For a listing of all 32 capsules, click here.
GREEN BAY PACKERS
2008 Fantasy Ratings:
Rushing: 23rd.
Passing: 8th.
Overall: 10th.
Picking the Packers to be fantasy's 10-most productive team this season is easy. After all, they were No. 10 last season and almost nothing has changed in Packerland since then.
Sure, Ryan Grant could post better numbers than last year because he's healthier. Then again, he could post worse numbers because his offensive line is more of a question mark.
So I'd expect him to be about the same. Maybe slightly better.
And, yes, Aaron Rodgers could improve in his second full season as the starting quarterback. Then again, some consider last year's numbers to be a bit fluky being that it was such a good year weatherwise on the melted tundra.
So I'd expect him to be about the same. Maybe slightly worse.
Bottom line: If you're looking for sleepers and disappointments, I wouldn't look at the Packers. No team figures to be more predictable in 2009.
Projected 2009 Overall Fantasy Rating: 10th.
Most likely Packer to be better than expected (2008 position ranking in parentheses): RB Ryan Grant (20th among running backs).
Most likely Packer to disappoint (2008 position ranking in parentheses): QB Aaron Rodgers (third among quarterbacks).
