The two keys to a successful draft in fantasy football are: 1) Selecting players who will perform better than expected; and 2) Staying away from guys who will disappoint. In this 32-team series, I examine both types of players on every NFL team as the clubs prepare to head to training camp. For a listing of all 32 capsules, click here.
TENNESSEE TITANS
2008 Fantasy Ratings:
Rushing: 4th.
Passing: 29th.
Overall: 19th.
That's not a misprint. As good as they were last season, the Titans passed the ball better - from a fantasy standpoint - than just three teams. Three.
And they did little to improve on that number this off-season.
That's scary.
In the NFL, if you do just one thing well, most teams are good enough to take that away from you eventually. That has to be a huge concern for the Titans this season.
And here's another: If LenDale White or Chris Johnson were to get injured - and given the attention they will receive this year, that's bound to happen - the team will have to throw the ball more. That means more of Kerry Collins. And that means trouble.
The Titans imported a Steelers backup (Nate Washington) and drafted guys from Rutgers (Kenny Britt) and South Carolina (Jared Cook) to help the passing game. That's not encouraging, so don't expect much - if any - improvement.
Once again, the Titan offense will go only as far as White and Johnson can carry it.
And that's a bit scary.
Projected 2009 Overall Fantasy Rating: 24th.
