Go against the Lions.
More than any other position in the fantasy game, you need to consider two factors when deciding which defense to put in your lineup on any given Sunday.
First off, you have to consider the defense itself. Duh.
But secondly, and arguably just as important, you have to consider the offense against which this defense will be playing.
As mentioned in this space last week, going against a backup quarterback is usually a good idea. Even bad defenses can look good when when the other team's quarterback is easily flustered and becomes mistake-prone.
The Lions not only will be starting a backup quarterback the rest of the season, but the entire offense is in disarray. Trading away one of your few legitimate weapons - Roy Williams - is usually a bad idea short-term.
The Texans cannot be considered even an above-average defense, but they surely will be this week when hosting the Lions. Houston comes into the game riding high off a dramatic win over the Dolphins. Detroit, meanwhile, has sunk to season-low depths.
Play the Texans defense this week. You'll be glad you did.
