Get creative on your driveway this weekend
with some homemade chalk.

Another weekend is approaching and since summer isn’t in full swing yet, you might be searching for something fun to do. If you want to fill your weekend up with quality family time and don’t want to spend half your paycheck, here are a few fun ideas:

1. Sidewalk Chalk
Use the weekend to decorate your driveway and sidewalk. Write funny messages, draw family pictures or play games like tic tac toe or hangman. It’s a great way to get some fresh air and exercise that right side of your brain that hardly gets used. Your kids will enjoy the freedom to color outside the lines and you might find your inner artist. If you’re feeling extra creative you can even make your own sidewalk chalk.

2. Lemonade Stand
It’s never too early to start teaching the principles of economics – and what better way to learn than a lemonade stand! Kids love setting up a little table with the prospect of making $1.25 for 3 hours of work. Make sure you solicit some local friends or neighbors to buy the watered down Kool-aid so your kid can feel like a successful entrepreneur.

3. Make your own Play-doh
Sometimes making the actual Play-doh is more fun than playing with it. Here’s a great, easy recipe for play-doh with ingredients you probably already have: click here and get started.

4. Giant Self-Portrait

Use a large sheet of packing paper, left-over wallpaper or any sheet of long paper. Get your kid to lie down on the paper and trace the outline around him or her. Then your child can paint or color the features: hair, face, clothes and accessories. After the masterpiece is complete, cut it out and tape it up on the wall for everyone to admire.

5. Pajama Party Saturday
Dig out everyone’s pj’s extra early, make some popcorn, rent a movie, turn out the lights and have a slumber party. If you don’t mind turning your living room upside down, make a good old-fashioned tent out of blankets and couch cushions. The kids will love doing something different and you will love the giggles, quality time and an inexpensive Saturday night.
