California Highway Patrol monitors the unfurling of "The Umbrellas."
The Ranch House Coffee Shop on Gorman Road, Lebec Califonia, just off the freeway on a crisp, early autumn morning. This is one of those out of the way places, a quick stop for a bite to eat on an 80 MPH jaunt between LA and San Francisco. This is Lebec, at 7:37 AM, October 9, 1991 amidst the dwindling calm--before the Umbrellas came." How Rod Serling might have introduced a Twilight Zone episode based on Christo and Jeanne-Paul's "Umbrellas."
If you were driving down California's Highway 5 unawares that morning, you very well might have thought you had entered the Twilight Zone.
