Back around December 11th, in preparation for the big Boston Celtics home game that turned out to be a real stinker in Washington, I decided to try and inspire some All-Star votes for Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison.

Harpers left a comment suggesting it was silly for me to even suggest the votes, as the Wizards poor start had put them near the bottom of the league standings.  I wrote a rebuttal, but the truth, of course, is your favorite player will likely never win individual awards unless the team he or she plays on has a winning record.

Butler and Jamison are still crunching numbers, Butler with his 21-point third quarter in Orlando, Jamison with a 32-point game yesterday in Toronto (and 9 rebounds which pushed him over the 6,000 career mark), but it all comes back to Washington's 7-27 team record.

Strangely enough, Gilbert Arenas had quite a few votes last I looked (283,030), despite not playing at all this season, and even Brendan Haywood is on the list with 89,664.

Either people like Arenas better, or the forward match-ups are tougher to choose from.  Chris Bosh, Paul Pierce, Hedo Turkoglu, LeBron James, Danny Granger, Kevin Garnett; it's going to be hard to make a team and not leave a worthy forward out of the running.  Still, the Wizards dynamic forward duo (even if Caron has slipped back down to shooting guard) will have a chance of being selected by the coaches of the league, and could still make the Eastern All-Star team if they aren't voted in by the fans.

Only 11 more days to vote!  The 2009 NBA All-Star Game will be hosted in Phoenix, Arizona, on February 15th, 2009.
